7 years ago (2016-10-02 09:42:29) :
Cloud base is currently rising, the conditions are getting better and better, there is no turbulence and there is a nice convergence zone above St Leu so there should be a lot of pilots in goal today. We are expecting the leaders to get to goal in about half an hour.
7 years ago (2016-10-02 09:39:16) :
The top 20 pilots have now made the 3rd turn pt with Yoshiki Kuremoto from Japan, Markus Roschi from Switzerland and French pilot Marc Antoine Voirin in the lead gaggle.

At the moment cloud base is between 1500m and 1600m. There is lots of sunshine, the pilots are flying into wind but for the moment the wind isn't too strong.
7 years ago (2016-10-02 08:57:11) :
This leg is going to require a lot of patience. Reunion Island is famous for its micro climates iinfluenced by the sea breeze, the humidity, the convergence and the constantly changing cloud base making the landscape very complicated to interpret for those flying here for the first time.

7 years ago (2016-10-02 08:34:50) :
For the leg up to Bellemene the pilots have 2 choices, use the ravine and cliff topography near the coast or the plateau at the back which is more like flat land flying, however the cloud cover inland has reduced their options to staying nearer the coast, turning inland after the big ravine.
7 years ago (2016-10-02 08:25:20) :
Klaudia Bulgakow is also doing really well, a definite contender for 1st place on the women's podium, she has a lot of experience of flying in Reunion, she won the Pre PWC here in 2014 and is currently on great form - 1st woman in the recent Europeans in Macedonia.
