They aren't racing at the moment, the are just trying to get enough height to stay in the comp, this is going to be difficult, a lot of the leaders are less than a 100 m off the ground, they are pushing into wind, each little climb they stop for is taking them backwards.

The leaders are scraping along the tree covered hillside to the east of HQ, we may yet see the 'hero to zero' phenomenon that we saw so often in the Super Final

Without Kirsty Cameron, who so dominated the 2014 Coeur de Savoie PWC and won the 2016 St Andre PWC, there's a vacancy on the women's podium. I am sure Kirsty and 2 month old baby Noah will be keenly watching the comp and cheering on young up and coming French pilot M

The pilots tend to wait until the final glide to go at max speed as that is the point in the race where your position really counts. This is the point when we'll really see how the new gliders in the comp compare.%D%A%D%A

A real reflection of the pilot quality in this Coeur de Savoie PWC is that 28 of the pilots competing here have done what so many competition pilots dream of doing - winning a PWC task. Some of them have done it many, many times even just within the last three years -Maxime Pinot has won at least 7 tasks, Torsten Siegel 6, Yassen Savov 5. There are a lot of very current and very competitive pilots here me thinks and this task has done a great job of seperating them all out.

Once they make the valley crossing they'll probably have enough height to get turn point three and four and end of speed.

Those still on their way to the second turn point are taking a very different route over launch rather than crossing the valley early, lets see if that works any better, if it's faster they might catch up with the leaders.

Kaoru Ogisawa's route in the middle of the vally seems to have paid off, he's caught up with the leaders. 'Ogi' competed a lot in Japan last year and won the Japanese league. He hasn't taken part in a PWC for many years, but chose this one for his come back as he loves it here and really wants to fly Gin's new Boomerang 11.
